In late 2009, Toyota issued a recall of 3.8 million vehicles, due to floor mats prohibiting proper braking in said vehicles. However, this turned out to be just the tip of the iceberg. By January 21, 2010, another 3 million were recalled due to another issue unrelated to braking systems. Just seven days later, the company expanded the recall to include over 9 million vehicles.
